About Me

My Photo

At the age of 28, I moved from my hometown of New York City in search of new experiences.  I have been living in the United Kingdom ever since.  I’m married to a lovely Englishman and have three nearly-grown children.

My interests include, but are by no means limited to, needlework, travel, reading and writing.

Back To Square One

Yes, it has been a long time since my last post.  I've been dealing with setbacks and it’s taken me awhile to get on top of things.

When last we met, I had come up with a Plan B to use when I couldn’t get any TV time to do my Wii Fit Plus workout.

I tried it out for a week and it was good; so good in fact that I used it not just as a substitute for my Wii Fit Plus but as a supplement to it as well.

I would walk for 20 minutes to warm-up and then do my Wii Fit Plus routine. It seemed to be working a treat. I didn’t shift any weight, but I could feel my clothes starting to get looser; especially around the waistline. My posture improved and my movements were less stilted. ‘Well,’ I thought. ‘If this short workout could bring about an improvement, a longer one could only be better.’ I upped the time I spent walking, increased my Wii Fit Plus workout to 45 minutes and, while I was at it, started doing yoga again. All this increased activity took place within the space of 10 days. I was determined to get beach-body fit no matter what.

And that’s when it all started to come undone.

First, I pulled my right hamstring while practising yoga. I overstretched and felt the hamstring go. That put paid to yoga for awhile. It’s been nearly three weeks now and it still hurts when I try to stretch.

Shortly afterwards my left knee began giving me trouble again. It started off as vaguely uncomfortable; within a few days it was stiff and downright painful. If I squatted down, I found it difficult to stand up again. When I did, my knee ached and felt swollen although I couldn’t feel or see any swelling. The kneecap seemed to take on a life of its own. While walking, it seemed as if it was slipping around. It was time to see the doctor again.

The doctor arranged for an X-ray and renewed my prescription.

Later that evening, I realised that all my hard work was for nought. I was back to square one.
