Plan B Is A Walk in the Park

As you may be aware, for the last few weeks I've been trying to come up with a Plan B to implement when I can't get any TV time to do my regular Wii Fit Plus workout.  This was proving problematic.  I just couldn't seem to find anything suitable.

Jogging was most definitely out because pounding the pavement would cause vibrations to run up my legs and through my spine. The pain that this would cause would have been unbearable. That and I just don't like it.  Walking was out as well because I couldn't walk very far.  Biking was out because since having the surgery, I can't balance properly.  I've tried.  I keep falling over.  Swimming?  An excellent suggestion.

I checked the schedule at the nearest swimming centre and found a few openings.  None of them were suitable.  The early bird sessions were too early.  I could get a ride in easily enough, but I couldn't rely on public transport to get me home in time for work. The later morning sessions were no good because those were the hours that I worked.  The rest of the day and early evening was given to children's swimming lessons and training sessions for the local swim team.  The next public swim sessions were late in the evening.  By then I was already involved with household chores, checking homework and making sure my son had everything he needed for school the next day.

I had a go at yoga.  Because it is a gentle type of exercise I reasoned I would be able to get on well with it. Unfortunately, I couldn't stretch very far without bringing on pain.   It seemed I was out of luck.  But life's a funny thing, though.  I had pretty much given up on ever finding a suitable Plan B when fate intervened.

'I'm going for a walk in the park,' Awesome Dude announced, 'wanna come with?'  Now I had explained to my husband on several occasions why walking wasn't suitable for me anymore.  But still he insisted on inviting me along.  Either he was optimistic or he was just not listening.  This time, though, his optimism/lack of listening skills had finally paid off.

Since starting my new medication, I was no longer in constant pain.  I feel more energetic and my mood has improved.  'I'd love to,' I responded much to his delight.  We did nearly two miles that night.

Before these new pills came along, it wouldn't have been possible for me to go more than a mile without developing a noticeable limp.  It's almost like my medical problems had never happened.  I feel like me again.

So after spending weeks struggling to come up with a Plan B, it turned out to be a walk in the park after all.

  1. Hi Zulma - I'm glad you found some medication that works for you....I have several health issues that make it difficult for me to do just about anything. I was wondering if you would mind telling me what medication is working for you? if not, that's OK...
