About Me

My Photo

At the age of 28, I moved from my hometown of New York City in search of new experiences.  I have been living in the United Kingdom ever since.  I’m married to a lovely Englishman and have three nearly-grown children.

My interests include, but are by no means limited to, needlework, travel, reading and writing.

Day Two: I’m Organized...Now What?

OK, so technically it hasn’t been a day since I last posted. Let’s just say this was one of those really long Biblical days before the sun and moon were created.

It’s seems I underestimated just how long banishing the clutter in my life would take. I had mail piled up so high my youngest daughter swore she saw Ghurkhas trying to scale its peak. Funny, kiddo. Real funny.

Although it took me ages to come out from under, I haven’t been totally ignoring my Wii Fit Plus. I just haven’t been as good about it as I set out to be.

As planned, I went through every routine and exercise the Wii Fit Plus had. I must say I was impressed with the range of exercises you get. I particularly liked the aerobics. The Hula Hoop was fun and I liked the Step Aerobics. I don't think jogging is going to work out, though. I’ve never been a fan of running anywhere. And the symbolism of running to nowhere was just is a source of irritation to me. The boxing was enjoyable but I couldn’t seem to get the timing or the patterns right. Coach wasn't very impressed with me.

The balance games were OK but I think it might be more fun to compete with other people. I totally stunk at heading the football. I don't think I even scored in the double digits. I started to come unstuck when they began pelting me with shoes. But I completely lost it when endangered animals were chucked at me. But I take comfort in the knowledge that my antics helped bring joy and laughter to those around me.

Sorting through all those routines and exercises took me a couple of days. I had to squeeze it in between my out-of-home job, my in-the-home job, family time and, of course, getting organized. By the end of it though, I did manage to set up my own regime using the 'My Routine' option. Eighteen yoga poses and muscle developing exercises make up a routine lasting 30 minutes.

MY ROUTINE

Yoga:  Half Moon Pose          Muscle: Single Leg Extension

          Warrior Pose                          Press Ups

Tree Pose                              Torse & Waist Twists

          Sun Salutation                        Jacknife

          Standing Knee Pose                 Lunge

          Chair Pose                             Single Leg Twist

          Triangle                                Sideways Leg Lift

          Dog Pose                               Parellel Stretch

                                                      Tricep Extension

I tried to balance my routine so I would get an all-over body workout instead of just concentrating on one set of muscles. I did however put emphasis on exercises that would help with my balance as this is a major issue of mine.

I had intended to do My Routine at least three times a week but reality kept intruding. That and my oldest daughter who, when she’s home, gets to the Wii Fit Plus before I do. Despite this I did manage to work my routine once or twice a week. Better than not at all. Now that the clutter is gone from my house and my mind, I can make the Wii Fit Plus more of a priority.

Here are my latest stats to date:

Measurements:

Bust: 41 3/4" (106 cm)     Height: 5'6"

Waist: 35 1/8" (87 cm)     BMI: 31.85

Hips: 45 1/2" (115 cm)     Weight: 14st, 2lb (198lb) -1 lb

Balance Test:

Single Leg: 75%     Memory: 22

Wii Fit Age: 31

Hmmm. I seemed to have aged a little there. Lost one pound. Not great, but considering I hadn’t worked out the way I wanted to, a pound is pretty good. At least I didn’t gain weight. My BMI is down slightly and I lost a whole 1/8th inch off my waist.

OK, so it’s not brilliant but I’ll take whatever good news I can get and use it as motivation. I mean, just think what I could achieve if I really made the effort?
